Jennette McCurdy Adapted into New Apple TV+ Series Starring Jennifer Aniston

Apple TV+ has announced an adaptation of Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” with a 10-episode dramedy series set to premiere. The show will star Jennifer Aniston as a role modeled after McCurdy’s mother, who was described as emotionally, mentally and physically abusive throughout McCurdy’s childhood.

The series is centered around the complex relationship between a young actress and her narcissistic mother, with no casting announced for the child star yet. The show follows the codependent relationship between the two characters, as seen in McCurdy’s memoir, which recounts the difficulties she faced handling fame while navigating her mother’s illness.

McCurdy started acting at age 8 and rose to fame on Nickelodeon shows “iCarly” and “Sam & Cat.” The memoir details the struggles she faced with her mother’s death due to cancer complications in 2013. Aniston is collaborating with McCurdy and film producer Ari Katcher, who will serve as co-showrunners and executive produce the series.

The show’s premise has sparked controversy, but McCurdy insists that it accurately reflects her experiences. “I think abusive love is so complicated… It’s going to be mixed and messy,” she said in a previous statement. The adaptation follows Aniston’s collaboration with Apple TV+ on “The Morning Show,” which stars Aniston and executive produces.
