Jeremy Clarkson has reignited his long-standing feud with Elon Musk after Tesla’s sales plummet. Two decades ago, Musk sued the former Top Gear host for defamation over a negative review of the Tesla Roadster in 2008. Musk had found the car “unreliable” and criticized its high price, but lost the lawsuit.
Clarkson recalled that he was defending his reviews as fair when Musk sued, and even jokingly said he should have sued back, fearing Musk would call him a paedo. Clarkson expressed delight in seeing Musk’s struggles, particularly with the public perceiving Tesla negatively due to Musk’s association with Donald Trump.
Musk had previously criticized Clarkson for having a strong bias against electric cars and American vehicles. However, Clarkson maintained that his reviews were always fair, even when mocking up Tesla’s unreliability on Top Gear. Musk had also sued the BBC in 2013 over negative publicity surrounding Clarkson’s shows, including Top Gear.
