In 2024, my first full year at RPS was filled with exciting games that tested my skills and pushed me to explore different genres. Amidst the challenging Soulslikes and gacha games, I discovered some exceptional point-and-click experiences and sandbox adventures that stood out for their unique charm.
One such game is An English Haunting, a point-and-click adventure set in Victorian England during the spiritualist era. The game follows Professor Patrick Moore as he investigates paranormal activities within 72 hours before his university shuts down. With its attention to setting, engaging puzzles, and brief sequences featuring famous figures like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, An English Haunting is an excellent choice for fans of mysteries and horror.
Another standout title is Dragon’s Dogma 2, a sandbox action-RPG that lets players create their own gameplay experiences. I enjoyed the game’s open-ended nature, memorable Pawn system, and creative boss fights. As a fan of tabletop RPGs, I appreciate how Dragon’s Dogma 2 acts as a Game Master, allowing players to weave their own stories through character interactions.
Last but not least, I’d like to mention Vampire Survivors’ Ode to Castlevania DLC, which pays tribute to the classic Castlevania series. This delightful update features iconic characters, unexpected survivors, and challenging gameplay that will appeal to fans of the genre. With its abundance of deep cuts and Easter eggs, Ode to Castlevania is an excellent addition to Vampire Survivors.
These games might have flown under the radar during 2024’s GOTY list, but they’re definitely worth checking out for those looking for something unique and engaging.
