Jerry Jones Considering McCarthy Departure as Chicago Bears Enter the Fold

Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy’s future in Dallas is up for grabs after the Chicago Bears requested permission to speak with him about their head coaching vacancy. The Bears have sought to interview McCarthy, who has exclusive negotiating rights through January 14, and the Cowboys have yet to respond.

McCarthy expressed his desire to return to Dallas, citing a strong connection between himself and the organization. However, Jerry Jones’ stance on the matter remains unclear. In response to whether he would allow another team to speak with McCarthy if permission was sought, Jones stated that he wouldn’t want someone coaching who didn’t truly want to be there.

Jones and McCarthy are set to meet this week to discuss the direction of the franchise. Although McCarthy has hinted at a desire to remain in Dallas, it is uncertain whether Chicago’s interest will impact his decision.

Notably, McCarthy possesses a 19-7 record against the Bears throughout his career, which may influence the team’s decision-making process. The Bears have also requested interviews with Detroit Lions’ Ben Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers’ Arthur Smith, and Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, as well as interim head coach Thomas Brown.
