JessEm Tool Company Faces Tariffs Amid US Trade Tensions

Darrin Smith’s woodworking tool company, JessEm, is feeling the squeeze with US tariffs on Canadian imports. Founded in 1997 by Smith, who named it after his twin daughters Jesse and Emily, the company has grown significantly since then. With a facility in Moncton, New Brunswick, JessEm now employs 65 people and is on track to reach $17 million in sales this year. However, President Trump’s recent tariffs have raised concerns about the company’s future prospects, particularly with a 25 percent tariff imposed on imports from Canada, including oil and petroleum products.
