The New York Jets have completed an interview with veteran head coach Ron Rivera, who is a strong candidate for the vacant head coaching position. Rivera, 62, has extensive experience in the NFL, having led the Carolina Panthers from 2011-19 and the Washington Commanders from 2020-23.
During his tenure as head coach of the Panthers, Rivera made the playoffs seven times, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2015. He was also named NFL Coach of the Year twice, in 2013 and 2015. Before joining the Commanders, Rivera served as defensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers (2008-10) and Chicago Bears (2004-06).
Rivera began his coaching career with the Bears in 1984, after being drafted by the team out of Cal. He later worked under Andy Reid at the Eagles from 1999 to 2003. The Jets, led by chairman Woody Johnson, are now considering Rivera for the head coaching position alongside other candidates.
As part of their search process, the Jets have partnered with The 33rd Team in a support role to help identify and vet potential candidates. Jeff Ulbrich and Phil Savage serve as interim head coach and General Manager, respectively, until a permanent replacement is made.
