The New York Jets rebounded from a lackluster performance on Tuesday with a stronger showing against the Giants on Wednesday, showcasing their physical ground game against a stout defensive front. Quarterback Justin Fields led the charge, breaking out for an explosive run early in the practice and setting the tone for the offense.
HC Aaron Glenn praised his team’s response to yesterday’s uneven effort, saying they “came back and responded from some of the things I thought we weren’t as good at.” The Jets’ offensive line performed well, particularly in the two-play drive that resulted in a 30-yard touchdown run by Breece Hall. Fields also showed promise, taking reps with Adrian Martinez and connecting with Brandon Smith for a first down.
The Giants defense posed a challenge, with edge Brian Burns and rookie Abdul Carter moving around to different positions. However, the Jets’ offense adapted, leaning on the run game to great effect. HC Glenn noted that younger players like Brandon Smith are steadily improving, pushing the older guys to perform at a higher level.
The defense also showed flashes of brilliance, particularly from CB Brandon Stephens, who ran step for step with Giants receiver Beaux Collins and broke up a pass intended for Lil’Jordan Humphrey. LB Jamien Sherwood said his unit “came out firing,” bouncing back quickly after giving up an early touchdown.
Despite some struggles, the Jets finished practice strong, forcing the Giants offense to settle for a short field goal attempt in the end. The team’s physicality and resilience will be put to the test in their upcoming games against the Buccaneers and Dolphins.
