Jets QB Justin Fields Returns to Practice with Caution

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields returned to practice on Saturday, but his limited participation raised concerns about his readiness for full team drills. The second-year quarterback dislocated a toe in his right foot during a drill Thursday and was held out of Friday’s practice.

Fields participated in 7-on-7 drills with no pass rush, allowing him to focus on catching passes without worrying about defenders. He completed eight of nine passes, including a highlight play where he connected with wide receiver Tyler Johnson for a deep post route.

Coach Aaron Glenn said Fields’ progress is being monitored closely and that time isn’t an issue. The Jets have six weeks before their season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Backup Tyrod Taylor continued to run the starting offense during Saturday’s practice, showcasing his skills in a tight-window completion.

Fields is expected to be back to full participation next week, with Glenn stating, “He’s going to be just fine.” However, the Jets will continue to follow the protocol to ensure Fields’ readiness for team drills and games.
