Jim Carrey has rekindled his involvement in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise, reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.” In an interview at the UK premiere of the film, Carrey revealed he initially stated that a script written in gold ink by angels was necessary to return. Although he downplays this statement, saying it might have been hyperbole, Carrey acknowledges his desire to play intelligent characters and financial necessity as factors behind his decision.
Carrey previously expressed a serious intention to retire from acting in 2022 but remained open to revisiting the franchise if the right script was presented. With “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” set to hit US theaters on December 20, it appears Carrey’s return is more about practicality than passion for the character.
