Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler donned a huge smile as he introduced himself to the media on Thursday, hinting at a fresh start with his new team. The six-time All-Star expressed enthusiasm for joining forces with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Butler said he’s thrilled to be playing basketball again after a tumultuous ending with the Miami Heat, where he was suspended three times this season due to conduct detrimental to the team. He attributed his departure from South Beach as an issue of “talking back and forth” between him and team president Pat Riley, which ultimately led to his last suspension.
The Warriors are ecstatic about landing Butler, who sources claim agreed to a new two-year, $111 million deal. Coach Steve Kerr praised Butler’s ability to bring pressure and confidence to the locker room. Curry said he’ll watch Heat film to analyze what suits Butler’s game best, while Green described their playing styles as similar with an edge.
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. stated that the franchise acquired a star talent to enhance Curry’s championship window without sacrificing assets like young players or picks. The team will have flexibility in their financial commitments and can reassess their roster in future moves.
Butler expressed his eagerness to be part of the Golden State dynasty, saying he wants to “go out there and do what I’ve been doing for a very long time” with fun and enthusiasm. He also hopes to make his debut on Saturday against the Chicago Bulls.
