Jimmy Butler returned from a painful glute contusion and hard fall in Game 2, but it took him a while to find his footing. The left side of his pelvis still hurts after the crash, making it difficult for him to fully lift his left leg while running.
Butler made significant contributions in the Warriors’ 109-106 win over the Houston Rockets, securing a 3-1 series lead. He only took three first-half shots and scored four points, but his hustle and confidence led to a crucial power layup with two minutes left to put the Warriors up by three.
The game’s turning point came in the fourth quarter when Butler received a pass in the corner with the shot clock nearing zero. He was forced to take a rushed 3-pointer and was bailed out by Rockets player Dillon Brooks, who committed a foul, giving Butler five clutch free throws.
Butler’s performance culminated in an impressive defensive rebound from the baseline, which he timed perfectly from the corner. The sequence showcased his compromised stride, as he scooted across the floor instead of running.
Coach Steve Kerr praised Butler’s resilience, saying he’s “Jimmy Butler” and that’s what he does in the playoffs. His teammates recognized his effort, with Draymond Green noting that Butler never complained while struggling to move in the first three quarters.
The Warriors now head to Houston with a chance to close out the series, giving Butler’s aching body a few extra days of rest. “I’m back,” Butler said.
