Jinny Howe Named Head of UCAN Scripted Series at Netflix

Netflix has announced the appointment of Jinny Howe as its new Head of U.S.-Canada Scripted Series, effective immediately. Reporting to Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria, Howe will succeed Peter Friedlander, who is leaving the company after nearly 14 years.

Howe, a rising star in the industry since joining Netflix in 2018, has been promoted for the fourth time in four years. She was previously Head of Drama Series for UCAN and oversaw the development and production of several critically acclaimed shows, including Bridgerton, Beef, and The Diplomat.

Bajaria praised Howe’s “incredible energy and warmth” and her ability to champion bold storytelling and build creative partnerships. Friedlander, who has been with Netflix since 2011, will be leaving after a remarkable run, during which he oversaw many of the company’s most iconic shows, including House of Cards and Black Mirror.

Friedlander expressed his gratitude to Bajaria and his colleagues, calling it “the ride of a lifetime” and praising Netflix’s incredible growth into one of the world’s beloved entertainment brands. He will now embark on a new chapter in his career, although it is unclear what this will entail.

Howe, meanwhile, is excited to take the reins and lead the company’s powerhouse series team. She has already made a significant impact at Netflix, working on several popular shows and building a reputation as a creative leader with a passion for bold storytelling.

The appointment marks a new era for Netflix’s scripted series division, which has been instrumental in shaping the company’s brand and success. With Howe at the helm, fans can expect to see more innovative and engaging content from the company in the future.
