Jo-Ann Fabrics, a well-known textile retailer with nine locations in the Houston area, has announced its closure and liquidation of all assets. The company, which was founded in 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, will be shutting down due to economic headwinds.
Liquidation sales are currently underway, offering discounts of up to 50% off on fabrics and other products. However, many loyal customers, like Patty Bailey, a longtime shopper from West Houston, expressed concerns about the high prices, even with the deep discounts.
“It’s just not worth it anymore,” Bailey said. “I’ll be back in a few weeks looking for deeper discounts.”
The closure is expected to impact the entire company’s workforce, leaving many employees without jobs. The exact timeline for permanent closures and liquidation efforts may vary, but an employee at one of the recently opened stores estimated that her location would close by May.
As the retail landscape continues to evolve, Jo-Ann Fabrics’ demise serves as a reminder of the challenges facing the industry.
