Joann, a fabric retailer with over 82 years of history, has started going-out-of-business sales at some locations as it closes about 500 stores across the US. The company filed for bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year and received court approval for its restructuring plan on Friday.
Clearance sales began at closing locations on February 15 and are expected to run for several months, with discounts ranging from 10-20% and some Christmas items seeing deeper reductions. However, it’s unclear how much specific discounts will be offered online.
Some notable examples of sales were seen in Arizona, California, Massachusetts, and Florida. The company has paused discounts for certain groups, including gift cards, Girl Scouts, teachers, military personnel, and healthcare professionals, as well as returns at closing stores.
The remaining 350 Joann locations are expected to remain open as usual, with the company’s website and joann.com also unaffected by the closures.
