Joe Gibbs Racing Seeks Martinsville Breakthrough After Dry Spell

Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) is searching for a breakthrough at Martinsville Speedway, where it has struggled in recent years. The team’s last win was 882 days ago, and it’s been Hendrick Motorsports and Team Penske who have dominated the Virginia short track since then.

Denny Hamlin, who has five wins at Martinsville, described the track as “one of the most physically tough tracks” due to its concentration requirements. Even three-time winner Christopher Bell, this weekend’s pole sitter, has struggled with the track’s challenges.

Bell attributed JGR’s struggles to inconsistent setups and lack of rhythm. He credits his dirt-racing background for helping him adapt to slippery conditions and find grip on the track.

Newcomer Chase Briscoe, who has been consistent at Martinsville with five top 10s, feels confident about his team’s chances. However, JGR will need a strong performance from all four cars to gain momentum ahead of the season finale.

A win or solid showing would set the stage for the Championship 4 and give JGR the boost it needs as the NASCAR Cup Series heads into its penultimate race. With rain potentially affecting the outcome, Bell hopes his dirt-racing experience will serve him well in wet conditions.
