Former NFL star John Elway’s longtime agent, Jeff Sperbeck, has died following a golf cart accident in La Quinta, California. Sperbeck, 62, was injured on Saturday evening and passed away Wednesday due to his injuries.
Elway described Sperbeck as “a wonderful father, husband, brother, son, and friend” and expressed his profound sadness at the loss of someone who meant so much to him. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, which occurred in a private community, and said they will take appropriate action based on the outcome.
Sperbeck had represented over 100 football players during his 30-year career as an NFL agent. Elway worked with Sperbeck for many years and considered him a close friend and business partner. The cause of the accident is not yet clear, but officials say it’s still in its preliminary stages.
Elway spent his entire 16-year NFL career with the Denver Broncos, leading the team to two Super Bowl victories. He later served as the Broncos’ general manager and executive vice president before transitioning to a consultant role.
