Actor John Goodman has revealed that he and his former co-star Roseanne Barr haven’t spoken in over seven years. The comment comes after Barr’s controversial past, including a social media post that likened a Black Barack Obama aide to an ape character, led to her firing from the ABC reboot of her sitcom in 2018.
Goodman, who played Barr’s husband on the show for 10 seasons, defended her during the controversy and has since become somewhat of a vocal critic of Hollywood’s “political divide.” In recent years, Barr has taken back her apology for the social media post and has been open about her support for Donald Trump and MAGA.
Despite their past friendship, Goodman acknowledged that working with Barr was challenging due to her strong personality. He also revealed that he had reached out to thank her for signing over the rights to “Roseanne” so it could continue without her as “The Conners.”
Goodman’s comments reflect his perspective on the current state of Hollywood and politics, stating that the damage has been done by the news cycle and that there is a stigma associated with being an actor. He admitted that some people in the industry can be “loons,” but emphasized that not all actors are “freaks” or out of touch with their fans.
The rift between Goodman and Barr remains, with neither party showing any signs of reconciliation.
