John Mara Reiterates Support for Daboll, Schoen Amid Frustration

New York Giants co-owner John Mara expressed his frustration with the team’s 2024 season at a press conference on Monday. The team finished 3-14 and had an 11-game losing streak, but Mara stuck by head coach Brian Daboll and General Manager Joe Schoen.

Mara acknowledged that his decision may not be popular, as planes towing banners asking him to fire the coaches were spotted over MetLife Stadium during games. However, he cited the 2024 draft class as a reason to believe in Schoen’s abilities. He also defended Daboll’s tenure as coach of the year in 2022, saying it didn’t “disappear all of a sudden.”

Mara warned that he has “just about run out of patience” with the team, implying that if they don’t show significant improvement next season, their jobs may be on the line. While Mara stopped short of labeling Daboll and Schoen as being “on the hot seat,” the statement sets up a high-stakes 2025 season for the coaches, who will need to produce better results before it arrives.
