Comedian John Mulaney has revived his live talk show format on Netflix, titled “Everybody’s Live,” which premiered on Wednesday night. The show features a mix of guests and topics, including a discussion on lending people money. Guest appearances include Michael Keaton, Joan Baez, and Richard Kind, who returns as Mulaney’s Ed McMahon sidekick.
The 12-week run follows Mulaney’s first attempt at the format, “Everybody’s in L.A.,” which aired last May. The new show has a broader focus than its predecessor, covering topics like personal finance, relationships, and social issues.
In his monologue, Mulaney joked about his wife Olivia Munn’s cancer treatment and shared stories about her “cancer brain.” Guest Baez also made comments on democracy and the influence of billionaires.
Mulaney’s format can lead to awkward moments among panelists, but the show has a unique charm. The premiere episode featured an inexplicable but hilarious sketch about the play “Death of a Salesman” with Christopher Lloyd and actors from various productions of the play. Mulaney also tested new boundaries on his standup comedy, tackling personal topics.
The 12-week run is part of Netflix’s latest foray into live programming.
