John Mulaney’s new Netflix talk show, Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, has received mixed reviews from early viewers. The show’s attempt to reboot his earlier iteration, John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA, seems to have fallen short for many fans. Critics say the new format is “cringe” and “boring,” with one fan calling it a letdown despite being a huge admirer of Mulaney’s comedy.
The first episode featured guests like Michael Keaton, Jessica Roy, Fred Armisen, Cypress Hill, and Joan Baez, tackling topics such as loans between friends and family. The show also included live calls from real people discussing personal loans and a pre-aired sketch about Willy Loman from Arthur Miller’s Death of the Salesman.
The new show has yet to receive a Rotten Tomatoes score, but its predecessor, John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA, had an 83% approval rating. As Mulaney navigates this new format, it remains to be seen if he can recapture his signature humor and charm.
