John Stamos Honors Late Brian Wilson at Songwriters Hall of Fame Ceremony

John Stamos shared a heart-wrenching moment with his friend Mike Love after being told that fellow Beach Boy and cousin Brian Wilson had passed away. The actor, who has been an honorary member of the band for 40 years, was traveling with Love when he received the news.

Stamos said he broke the news to Love on the red carpet before enshrining him at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony in New York. According to Stamos, Love’s reaction was immediate, but his response was silence – no words for 2½ hours or more.

Stamos understood that Love was processing a profound loss, given their long history and musical partnership. “They made beautiful music together,” he said.

The Beach Boys’ influence on music is still felt today, especially during times of discord and negativity. Stamos feels grateful to have spent time with Wilson and recalled one special moment in Montreal where they improvised music together.

Love was finally inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, an honor that Stamos described as “the greatest honor of my life.” Stamos believes it’s long overdue, given Love’s contributions to the band.
