Lionsgate has begun production on “Day Drinker,” a new film starring Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, and Madelyn Cline. Directed by Marc Webb, the movie follows a private-yacht bartender who encounters a mysterious guest (Depp) with connections to a criminal figure (Cruz). The film is set in Spain and marks Depp’s return to Hollywood after high-profile legal battles.
The cast also includes Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle. Webb previously collaborated with Depp on “Blow” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” The film is produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.
“I’m excited to start production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and this incredible cast,” said Webb. “We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling story to tell.”
The film will be presented in association with 30WEST and executive produced by several notable individuals, including Dan Friedkin and Marc Webb.
Depp’s return to Hollywood has generated buzz, particularly after his recent involvement in high-profile legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard. However, fans are excited to see him back on the big screen alongside Cruz, who has worked with him previously.
