Johnny Depp is back in the spotlight after a long absence from the big screen. His new film “Day Drinker” marks his significant return to Hollywood following his highly publicized legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard.
Directed by Marc Webb, who previously worked on films like “500 Days of Summer” and “The Amazing Spider-Man,” Depp reunites with Penélope Cruz for their fourth on-screen collaboration. The film follows a bartender played by Madelyn Cline who crosses paths with a mysterious guest (Depp) aboard a private yacht. Their encounter spirals into a tangled web involving a criminal figure played by Cruz, revealing unexpected connections between the trio.
The cast includes rising star Madelyn Cline alongside Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle. Filming has begun in Spain with a production team stacked with Hollywood heavyweights, including producers from the successful “John Wick” franchise.
Depp’s return to Hollywood comes after he won his defamation case against Amber Heard in 2023. The jury ruled that Heard had defamed Depp in her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and an additional $5 million in punitive damages.
