Johnson & Johnson is investing over $55 billion to build four new plants in the US over the next four years, as the company responds to looming tariff threats on pharmaceutical imports. The investment represents a 25% increase from the last four years and will create thousands of jobs across the state of North Carolina.
The Wilson site, expected to cost over $2 billion, will focus on producing medicines for cancer, immune-mediated, and neurological diseases. J&J already has more manufacturing facilities in the US than any other country and plans to expand several existing sites and build new infrastructure for research and technology.
This investment comes as companies such as Eli Lilly and Apple announce plans to increase domestic manufacturing amid concerns of a 25% tariff on pharmaceutical imports. President Trump has been pushing drugmakers to move medicine production to the US, citing tax policies in countries like Ireland that have lured other companies in.
