Jordan is preparing to airdrop humanitarian aid into Gaza, joining forces with the United Arab Emirates and Israel in an effort to alleviate the worsening crisis. The emergency operation comes as ceasefire talks have collapsed, and dire conditions in Gaza teeter towards famine.
According to sources, Jordan’s Royal Air Force will restart the drop by beginning to draw from a stockpile of 500 tons of food in Amman. Military aircraft will drop the food into designated drop zones, coordinated with Israeli authorities. This operation is viewed as a last resort by humanitarian officials and aims to provide critical assistance to Palestinians facing widespread starvation.
The situation in Gaza has worsened over the past two weeks, with severe malnutrition cases among children under 5 tripling. Doctors Without Borders reports that 1 in 4 children screened at their clinics are malnourished, while pregnant and breastfeeding women are also affected. The World Food Programme stated that 70% of Gaza’s territory is controlled by Israel, leaving many people without access to aid.
The US has faced criticism for its handling of the crisis, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio ignored questions about how to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. President Donald Trump expressed frustration over the collapse of ceasefire talks, blaming Hamas and suggesting military action as an answer.
The airdrops will surpass the scale of previous operations, delivering over 1,000 tons of aid to Palestinians. The renewed operation is expected to bring relief to those struggling with hunger and malnutrition in Gaza.
