Jordan Poyer Ready to Fill Damar Hamlin’s Safety Void

Jordan Poyer, a former first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl safety, is ready to play for the Buffalo Bills if called upon. After Damar Hamlin was placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury, Poyer is in line to fill the vacant safety spot.

Poyer expressed his well-wishes to Hamlin and acknowledged that he’s eager to contribute to the team. He believes he has plenty left in his tank and is prepared to play if given the opportunity.

The 34-year-old veteran has been on the Bills’ practice squad since August and is looking to revive his career with the team. Poyer made it clear that he wants to end his career with the Bills, which would be a humbling experience for him after previously being traded to the Miami Dolphins.

Poyer’s willingness to return could pay off as early as Monday against the Atlanta Falcons. However, rookie Jordan Hancock is also in contention for the safety spot, and Poyer believes the 2025 draft pick has the potential to be a standout player for Buffalo. Despite not getting much playing time, Poyer thinks Hancock reminds him of himself when he was coming into the league.

If Hamlin’s injury keeps him out, Poyer will be ready to step in and provide leadership at safety. With his experience and skills, he could help stabilize the team’s secondary.
