Josh Allen’s Case for MVP Takes a Hit

Despite one of his worst games, Josh Allen remains a top contender for the NFL MVP award.

Josh Allen has been the leading candidate to win the NFL MVP award for several weeks, but his performance against the New England Patriots last week was not up to par. The Buffalo Bills needed to come from behind to beat the lowly Patriots 24-21, and Allen’s stats were underwhelming, completing just 16 of 29 passes for 154 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

However, Allen has still had an impressive season, leading the Bills to wins over the top-seeded teams in their division. He became the first player in NFL history to throw three touchdowns and score three rushing touchdowns in a game, and his team clinched the AFC East on December 1. Despite this, other players are closing in on Allen’s MVP case.

Patrick Mahomes is still in second place, despite playing with a high-ankle sprain, and has scored 23 touchdown passes and 3,608 passing yards for the Chiefs. Lamar Jackson is also in contention, throwing three touchdowns last week and leading the NFL with a passer rating of 120.6. Saquon Barkley leads the league in scrimmage yards, while Jared Goff ranks second in touchdown passes.

Allen will have an opportunity to secure his first NFL MVP award in Week 17 against the Jets and finish strong against the Patriots in Week 18. However, his performance last week has raised questions about whether he is still the top candidate for the award.
