Judge Blocks HHS Plans to Alter Vaccine Recommendations

A US federal judge in Boston blocked plans by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr to alter key vaccine recommendations, saying Kennedy likely broke federal procedures.

The decision halts an order by Kennedy to end broad vaccination recommendations for all children against flu, rotavirus, hepatitis A, and other diseases. Colorado’s health board now has more flexibility, seeking guidance from top medical groups like the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Pediatrics.

Colorado pediatrician Dr. Sean O’Leary says the ruling is good news, preventing chaos caused by HHS changes. However, he notes that confusion still exists among families and clinicians, which will continue to affect vaccination rates. The US Department of Health and Human Services plans to appeal the decision.

O’Leary believes the ruling validates Colorado’s position against federal vaccine recommendations changes. He adds that trust in vaccines has increased with pediatricians as a source of information.
