Federal judge Dale E. Ho will consider a request from prosecutors to drop charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams, as the investigation continues amid corruption allegations.
A key figure in the case, Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor Danielle R. Sassoon, has resigned rather than comply with an order to seek dismissal of the charges. In her resignation letter, Ms. Sassoon accused acting Justice Department official Emil Bove III of pressuring her to drop the case to allow Adams’ assistance with immigration enforcement.
However, Judge Ho has repeatedly denied Mayor Adams’ requests for a dismissal. The judge’s decision on this matter will have significant implications for the investigation and the mayor’s future involvement in immigration policy.
The federal judiciary has limited ability under the law to refuse government requests to drop charges. This case may be an exception due to concerns about political interference and the integrity of the court process.
