Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth” has dominated the box office, grossing $147 million domestically over five days of the Fourth of July weekend. The film outperformed early estimates and nearly matched its predecessor, “Jurassic World Dominion,” which earned $145 million in its first three days.
The success comes as Hollywood continues to rebound from a sluggish start to 2025, with the box office up over 14% year-to-date compared to last year. The summer season is also performing well, with a 15% increase compared to 2024.
“Jurassic Park Rebirth,” the seventh film in the franchise, has reinvigorated the brand and thrilled audiences, according to Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “This brand will never go extinct because it continues to thrill audiences,” he said.
The film knocked Apple’s “F1” down a peg to No. 2, with $26 million domestically this weekend, a 54% drop from the week prior. However, “F1” is performing well internationally, where it has been a hit.
Warner Bros.’ “Superman,” set to open next week, is expected to gross over $100 million in its opening weekend. Analysts believe that the success of “Jurassic World Rebirth” and “F1” will attract similar audiences of young men, with “Superman” also appealing to families and younger audiences.
The releases of “Jurassic World Rebirth,” “Superman,” and Disney’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” could account for about a quarter of the domestic box office this summer, according to Shawn Robbins, director of analytics at Fandango.
