Kamala Harris has written about the tensions between her and former US President Joe Biden in her new memoir, 107 Days. The book reveals that when Biden called her hours before a crucial presidential debate against Donald Trump, he made her uncomfortable by discussing his brother’s associates who refused to support her.
Harris writes that she was “angry and disappointed” during the call, feeling distracted from her preparations for the debate. She also reflects on other criticisms of Biden, including his struggles with debating and his inability to discuss reproductive rights after the Roe v Wade decision. Harris acknowledges that there were times when Biden seemed frail and struggled to connect with her and others.
Despite their differences, Harris writes about how Biden eventually dropped out of the election race and endorsed her. However, she also notes that some campaign advisers told her that people “hate Joe Biden,” which was difficult for her to hear. The book provides a candid look at the challenges Harris faced during the 2024 presidential campaign, including dealing with Trump’s attacks on her identity.
