A mass shooting during a house party in Kankakee early on New Year’s Day left two people dead and five others injured. The victims have been identified as Quaysean T’ Andre Isom, 22, of Kankakee, and TreVontae C. Ellis, 20, of Pembroke Township.
The other five victims, including three women, are being treated at local hospitals. Kankakee Police Chief Chris Kidwell stated that the shooting occurred inside a home where people had gathered for a party, despite the noise complaints from neighbors.
A person of interest has been taken into custody after hiding near the residence, while two firearms and multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene. It is believed that two gunmen opened fire in the house on Pierson Parkway.
Kidwell urged the community to come forward with information to help identify those responsible for the shooting. The Kankakee County State’s Attorney has also appealed for tips from the public, saying “prayer works” for the victims and their families.
The incident is the second mass shooting in Kankakee County this year, following five homicides reported in 2024.
