Kansas Governor Sounds Alarm Over Trump-Musk DOGE Operations

Topeka, Kansas – A protest march was held in front of the Kansas Capitol on Monday, with dozens of people voicing their opposition to federal spending cuts by President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk. The operation, known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been accused of targeting confidential IRS files and making drastic changes to government programs.

Lawrence resident Sarah Melody joined the protest, holding a sign that read “NO ONE ELECTED ELON.” She expressed her distrust in Musk’s judgment and intent, citing his lack of elected experience. Governor Laura Kelly also spoke out against the DOGE operations, expressing concern over the lack of accountability and security clearance for those accessing personal information.

Kelly stated that while she understands the need to review government spending, it requires thoroughness and thoughtfulness to avoid making unnecessary cuts. The governor has been in discussions with other Democratic governors to collectively respond to the chaos in Washington.

The DOGE task force has targeted several federal agencies, including the Treasury Department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Governor Kelly warned that this approach could lead to unintended consequences and “throwing the baby out with the bath water.”

As the situation continues to unfold, residents of Kansas and across the country are calling for greater transparency and accountability from the Trump-Musk administration’s spending cuts.
