Kansas Young Republicans Shut Down After Racist Encrypted Chat Scandal

Kansas’s youngest Republican party members were forced to shut down their organization after a Politico report revealed they had participated in encrypted chats with racist, violent, and antisemitic language. The chat involved the Missouri Young Republicans leader who praised Missouri leaders for not accepting LGBTQ+ people, and used racial slurs against Black people.

The Chairman of Kansas Young Republicans, Alex Dwyer, and Vice Chairman William Hendrix were fired from their jobs after Politico reported on the chats. Senate President Ty Masterson, a 2026 governor candidate, denied any association with Hendrix or Dwyer but acknowledged they were not associated with his campaign. Former Governor Jeff Colyer said “the viewpoints expressed in this chat are not representative of Kansans” and called for the two members to resign from their positions.

Several Republican candidates running for governor condemned the language used by Hendrix and Dwyer, saying it was disgusting, disgraceful, and tarnished the reputation of Kansas nationally. They also stated that such behavior was encouraged from the top down by politicians who seek to divide voters rather than bring them together.
