Kanye West, the rapper and designer, aired a commercial during the Super Bowl promoting his online store’s single product: $20 white T-shirts with black swastikas. The 30-second ad features Ye speaking about his new teeth, filmed on an iPhone.
The website Yeezy.com initially sold other clothing items but shortly shifted to only selling the shirt with the swastika. However, after it aired, the website went offline due to Shopify’s removal. A Shopify spokesperson stated that Ye’s store violated terms and removed it from their platform.
Ye previously faced criticism for posting anti-Semitic content on social media, which sparked an Anti-Defamation League condemnation. The organization described the commercial as “no excuse” for such behavior, citing the swastika as a symbol of Hitler’s regime.
Fox broadcasted the ad in local markets during the Super Bowl. Ye purchased the ad and it ran again on Fox shortly after the game ended. Local ads can be significantly cheaper than national ones.
