“Karate Kid: Legends” Director Reveals Post-Credits Scene and Cobra Kai Connection

The latest installment in the Miyagi-verse, “Karate Kid: Legends,” has arrived in theaters, introducing a new underdog hero, Li Fong. The film follows Li’s journey as he faces off against Conor, a Brooklyn karate champ, in a high-stakes tournament to win money for his friend Mia’s father.

To defeat Conor, Li seeks the help of his sifu, Mr. Han, and renowned sensei Daniel LaRusso. However, director Jonathan Entwistle reveals that he took creative liberties to honor past movies while avoiding familiar tropes. Instead, he focused on how kung fu is perceived in Western movies, incorporating elements of street fighting and Bruce Lee’s style.

The climactic match features a 12-minute martial arts finale with minimal dialogue, set against the backdrop of a perpetual sunset. Entwistle aimed to create an epic scene reminiscent of “Lord of the Rings,” where the fight reaches its peak at the top of the mountain.

In a surprising post-credits scene, LaRusso receives a pizza delivery from Li, which leads to a humorous exchange with Johnny Lawrence. The scene ties into the Netflix series “Cobra Kai” and serves as an homage to what’s come before. Director Entwistle aims to lead audiences on to a new chapter in the Karate Kid series, one that builds upon the momentum of the original films.
