Minneapolis-based KARE TV, NBC affiliate for the Twin Cities, continued broadcasting with the help of an Atlanta station after a transformer exploded at its Golden Valley studio on Tuesday. The incident forced all staff members to evacuate safely, with no injuries reported.
The station temporarily relocated anchor Lauren Leamanczyk and meteorologist John Ziegler to Atlanta’s WXIA, where they anchored KARE’s “Sunrise” morning news show on Wednesday. In the meantime, other employees have assembled at the 1,400-foot-tall transmitter tower in Shoreview, which will serve as KARE’s temporary home.
“We can continue to bring viewers local news and weather they rely on and trust,” said General Manager Doug Wieder in an email. Operations are expected to resume at Golden Valley or a temporary space once deemed safe.
