Karla Sofía Gascón’s tumultuous award season has ended, but the “Emilia Pérez” star seems grateful for the experience. In a post on Instagram, she thanked members of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for nominating her in the best lead actress category and inviting her to the ceremony.
Gascón expressed her enjoyment at the event, praising host Jimmy Kimmel as “fabulous.” She jokingly compared him to Conan O’Brien, who made a reference to Gascón’s resurfaced tweets during his opening monologue.
Despite plans to attend the ceremony amidst backlash over her historic Oscar campaign, Gascón was not seated with her co-stars from “Emilia Pérez” but was spotted speaking to Selena Gomez. The cast typically sits close together at these events.
Gascón’s resurfaced tweets sparked controversy after director Jacques Audiard condemned her actions and co-star Zoe Saldaña and Gomez addressed the scandal in interviews.
Although Gascón did not face any major backlash at the ceremony, she thanked her colleagues for teaching her “many things.” The film won two Oscars from 13 nominations, including best supporting actress for Saldaña and best original song.
