Katy Perry had a close call at her San Francisco concert on Friday as her giant butterfly prop suddenly plunged several feet while she was riding on it during her performance of “Roar.” The malfunction occurred mid-air, startling the singer and likely the audience below.
After the initial scare, Perry remained calm and collected herself before jumping back into the song. The rest of the performance continued without incident.
The incident is not the first time a concert prop has caused a near-disaster for a performer this summer. In June, Beyoncé faced a similar issue with her flying car, which tilted and stalled above a Houston crowd during “16 Carriages.” Similar issues have also plagued Katy Perry’s tour, including a previous stage malfunction in Australia where a flying sphere she rides on began tilting mid-performance.
