Kawasaki Motors Europe has announced that it is recovering from a cyberattack that disrupted its services. The attack targeted the company’s EU headquarters and was initially detected on September 5th. The ransomware gang, RansomHub, claims to have stolen 487 GB of data from Kawasaki’s networks.
According to Kawasaki’s statement, the company’s IT staff collaborated with external cybersecurity experts to analyze and clean any suspicious material that may still be present on its systems. As a precautionary measure, all servers were isolated and put through a cleansing process to identify and deal with any malicious files.
Kawasaki estimates that by next week, 90% of its server infrastructure will have been restored. The company’s business operations, including dealerships, third-party suppliers, and logistics, are not impacted by the attack.
RansomHub has given Kawasaki until tomorrow to meet their demands, threatening to publish all stolen data if they are not satisfied. It is unclear whether the stolen files contain customer data, but this scenario cannot be ruled out at this point.
Kawasaki Motors Europe is a subsidiary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., a global Japanese company known for manufacturing motorcycles and other motorized products. The company operates an extensive network of authorized dealerships and customer service centers across the European market.
