Keke Palmer Shines in ‘One of Them Days’

Horror movies have dominated the box office lately, but “One of Them Days” proves that comedy can be just as effective in tackling contemporary issues. This buddy comedy, starring Keke Palmer and SZA, is a welcome respite from the bleakness of recent films.

The movie follows Dreux (Palmer), a Los Angeles waitress, as she embarks on a wild day-long adventure to raise $1,500 after her artist roommate Alyssa gives their rent money to an untrustworthy boyfriend. Palmer shines in this lead role, bringing a freewheeling wit and subtlety that elevates the film’s humor.

The satire targets the feeble opportunities faced by those trying to break out of a paycheck-to-paycheck cycle. The movie features a talented ensemble cast, including Katt Williams, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Lil Rel Howery, who add to the film’s charm.

Director Lawrence Lamont’s amiably realistic tone is perfect for this comedy, which balances humor with heart. SZA’s performance as Alyssa is winning, but Palmer’s turn as Dreux steals the show.

With a running time of 97 minutes, “One of Them Days” is a fun and engaging watch that proves comedy can be just as effective as horror in tackling contemporary issues.
