The NFL’s coaching carousel is in full swing, with six teams searching for new head coaches. ESPN’s Dan Graziano has identified a young coach who hasn’t held a high-ranking position since his playing days but is now a strong contender to lead the Dallas Cowboys. Kellen Moore, the current Eagles’ offensive coordinator, is Graziano’s pick.
Moore has an obvious connection to the Cowboys, having played for the team from 2015 to 2017 and later served as quarterbacks coach and then offensive coordinator under Mike McCarthy. He interviewed for head coaching jobs in recent years and was on some teams’ interview lists this cycle.
The Cowboys’ offense averaged just 18.9 points per game last season, ranking 25th in the NFL. Moore’s offense in Philadelphia, however, was sixth at 26.7 points per game. This suggests that he could bring a more productive approach to the team.
Moore left the Cowboys organization when McCarthy took over play-calling duties, and he has since moved on to other roles, including as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator under Brandon Staley. After Staley’s firing last season, Moore joined the Eagles’ staff, where he now works with quarterback Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley.
