Rapper Kendrick Lamar won five Grammy Awards for his song “Not Like Us,” leaving behind a sizzling scandal involving a bitter feud with Canadian rapper Aubrey Drake Graham, known as Drake.
The two rappers have been engaged in a long-standing dispute, which escalated into diss tracks last year. Lamar kicked-started the conflict when he featured on Future and Metro Boomin’s song “Like That,” rejecting the idea that he and Drake were part of the “big three” of rap.
Drake responded with three diss tracks, accusing Lamar of domestic violence, cheating on his fiancĂ©e, and using ghostwriters. In reply, Lamar released his own diss tracks, claiming Drake is a fake and an absent father. He also accused Drake of being a “certified pedophile,” which sparked a defamation lawsuit by Drake against several companies.
However, it’s worth noting that Lamar never included the “pedophile” line in his Grammy-winning performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. Despite this, the drama continues to unfold, with Drake claiming UMG and iHeartMedia are involved in a pay-to-play scheme to promote Lamar’s song.
UMG has moved to dismiss the petition for First Amendment issues, but the judge will hear the case on March 5. Meanwhile, the Grammy win marks a major victory for Lamar, who took home five awards for “Not Like Us.”
