Kevin Durant Invests in Paris Saint-Germain as Part of NBA Europe Plan

Kevin Durant has expanded his relationship with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and invested directly into UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. As part of a strategic partnership, Durant will consult on the club’s plans to expand into basketball.

PSG had previously expressed interest in launching a basketball franchise in Paris as part of the NBA’s potential expansion into Europe. The NBA has developed a plan to launch a new pro league in Europe, with PSG seen as a key partner. QSI is waiting for the NBA to announce its process for franchises in Europe.

Durant has taken a direct minority stake in PSG through his investment firm Boardroom, alongside business partner and former agent Rich Kleiman. The deal sees Durant exit his previous stake acquired via private equity firm Arctos Sports Partners.

The partnership also includes a strategic investment agreement between QSI and Boardroom to develop commercial, investment, and media content initiatives, as well as advising on PSG’s growth in the US. Most importantly, Durant will consult on PSG’s multi-sport strategy, including potential plans for NBA Europe.

PSG’s ambitions in basketball are seen as part of its broader multi-sport empire, which already includes soccer, handball, judo, and youth soccer. The club is looking to build a new stadium that could host NBA games, with construction planned for sites in Massy and Poissy.

The partnership raises questions about the potential role of Durant in NBA Europe, particularly if he were to play for PSG basketball or consult on the league’s launch plans. As part of the plan, the league aims to attract 16 teams, including franchises in London and Paris, and potentially partner with EuroLeague teams.
