Kevin Willard, the head coach of the University of Maryland men’s basketball team, has announced his decision to step down from his position effective immediately. He accepted another coaching opportunity.
Willard led the Terps on an impressive season, including a Sweet 16 berth and a remarkable buzzer-beater by Derik Queen. The university offered Willard a significant contract extension, staff changes, and a revenue-sharing budget increase to retain him, but he chose to leave for personal reasons.
The university is now conducting a national search for a new head coach, aiming to find someone who will continue the team’s legacy of success. The team, players, and coaches expressed gratitude for this season’s achievements.
We thank Coach Willard and his family for their service, and we appreciate the support from fans throughout the season. Stay tuned for the next chapter in Maryland Men’s Basketball.
