The US Federal Trade Commission has sued ticket reseller Key Investment Group for evading purchasing limits to buy thousands of tickets to live events, including Taylor Swift’s Eras tour. The company, which operates ticket resale sites like TotalTickets.com, used fake or purchased accounts to circumvent the 6-ticket purchase limit.
In a statement, FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson said the lawsuit puts ticket sellers on notice that the agency will crack down on those who evade limits set by ticketing platforms. This move is part of a broader crackdown on exploitative ticket reselling practices announced by President Donald Trump in March.
Key Investment Group had previously sued the FTC to block its investigation, claiming its ticket purchases did not use automated software and did not violate the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act. However, the agency has accused the company of violating the BOTS Act as well as the FTC Act, which prohibits unfair and deceptive business practices.
The lawsuit also comes amid a separate antitrust case against Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation Entertainment, accusing them of monopolizing markets across the live concert industry.
