Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), a part of Yum! Brands, is relocating its US corporate office from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas. The move will also see the company’s U.S.-based remote employees being asked to relocate to either Plano or Irvine, California.
As a result, 100 KFC U.S. corporate employees based in Louisville will be impacted, with 90 remote workers expected to make the relocation over the next 18 months. Despite this, Yum! Brands will retain its corporate offices in Louisville and continue to support local businesses.
The company cited “greater collaboration among brands and employees” as the reason for the move. However, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg expressed disappointment at the decision, emphasizing KFC’s significant presence in the state and its importance to the local community.
To mitigate this impact, Yum! Brands has announced a $1 million endowment to the University of Louisville’s College of Business. The company also plans to build a flagship restaurant in Louisville, maintaining its strong brand presence in the city.
CEO David Gibbs stated that the relocation will help KFC better serve customers, employees, franchisees, and shareholders, while fostering a more collaborative culture within the company.
