NFL star Khalil Mack is uncertain about his future in the league after a crushing 32-12 loss to the Houston Texans on Saturday. The nine-time Pro Bowl pass rusher, who turned 33 during the season, has been weighing his options as he approaches free agency.
Mack’s performance this season was impressive, recording 20 solo tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles that helped elevate the Chargers to an 11-6 record. Despite individual talents, Mack has yet to win a playoff game, a goal he has expressed desire to achieve.
“Man, it’s a lot of different thoughts in my head right now,” Mack said after the loss. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do about my future.” Mack plans to discuss his options with his wife and spend time with his children before making any decisions.
Mack is set to become a free agent this offseason, having played for the Chargers since 2022. He has previously suited up for the Bears and Raiders, where he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. With 107.5 career sacks, Mack is tied for 32nd place on the NFL’s all-time sack leaderboard.
Coach Jim Harbaugh’s first year ended in disappointment, but Mack remains optimistic about the team’s future. “Just understanding what he’s done in the short time he’s been here, and the potential of the guys that are in the building, you see the growth is inevitable,” Mack said. Despite his uncertainty, Mack still has plenty of gas left in the tank at 33 years old.
