Kia Recalls Niro SUVs Over Airbag and Seatbelt Issues

Kia has issued a recall for over 80,000 Niro SUVs from 2023 to 2025 due to a wiring issue that may prevent airbags and seatbelts from functioning properly. The problem could also lead to unintended airbag deployment in the front curtain, increasing crash risk. Kia discovered the issue in November 2024, but no injuries have been reported among vehicles with power seats or manual front seats.

Kia dealers will inspect, replace, and reroute the damaged wiring assembly for free, as well as install wiring covers. Notification letters are expected by March 14, 2025, and owners can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 or the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153). Owners should check if their vehicle is affected by visiting Kia’s recall database, the NHTSA recall database, or USA TODAY’s recall checker.
