Kibbutz Mourns Loss of Captive Hannah Katzir, Devoted Mother and Teacher

Hannah Katzir, a 76-year-old Israeli woman taken captive during the October 7 massacre at Kibbutz Nir Oz, has died. Her husband Rami was killed in the attack, and her son Elad was murdered in captivity.

Katzir’s friends and family described her as having a “huge heart” who would always give to others. She was a devoted wife, mother, and kindergarten teacher at the kibbutz for many years. Acquaintances remembered her as a dynamic duo with her husband Rami, and said she had a special connection with children, including Tamir Adar, whose son was also killed in Hamas captivity.

Community members took to Facebook to mourn Katzir’s passing and celebrate who she was in life. They shared stories of how she would always remember their clothes and greet them warmly upon visitation. “You always saw the bright side of each and every person’s heart,” one said, while another remembered her ability to bring people together, saying “every time we met, she would tell me how excited she was that grown-up Tamir never forgot her.”

Katzir’s daughter Carmit Palty Katzir called for action to secure a comprehensive agreement to bring back all 100 hostages held by Hamas. She said, “Her heart couldn’t withstand the unbearable pain since October 7. Each day our loved ones remain in captivity puts their lives at greater risk.”
